The design on this scarf is our interpretation of an early 17th Century drawing by an unknown Persian artist. We have given it the name “Lovers” as it would appear to represent a man and a woman in a romantic environment. But it could also represent the theme of poetry and poets, who were as important a part of Persia’s artistic and cultural traditions as was miniature painting. The original drawing is now in the possession of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
