Long Silk Scarf

Jami

This scarf contains fragments of a long love poem written by the celebrated 15th Century poet Jami. Jami was a prolific scholar and writer of mystical Sufi literature. The poem is written in the form of a Tarji’band, where stanzas are punctuated by a recurring verse.

The poem was copied in black nasta liq script by the calligrapher Muhammad Zaman al-Tabrizi in the 16th Century. The original artwork, bound as a book, is now in the collection of the Walters Arts Museum, Baltimore, Maryland.
