Long Silk Scarf

Maison Nazanin - Jami - 100% Silk Scarf

Named for the celebrated 15th Century Persian poet Jami, this silk scarf draws on a tradition where poetry, image, and calligraphy exist in complex harmony. Jami was notable for his extraordinary introspective love poetry.

The scarf is lightweight and fluid, with a soft drape that lends itself to versatile styling across both everyday and more considered settings.

• 100% Habotai silk
• Hand-rolled hems
• Lightweight with a fluid drape
• Soft, refined finish
• 141 x 41 cm

This scarf contains fragments of a long love poem written by Jami, who was a prolific scholar and writer of mystical Sufi literature.

The poem is written in the form of a Tarji’band, where stanzas are punctuated by a recurring verse. It was copied in black nasta liq script by the calligrapher Muhammad Zaman al-Tabrizi in the 16th Century.

The scarf comes with a transcription of the Parsi text and its translation into English verse.

The original artwork (bound as a book), on which this scarf is based, is now in the collection of the Walters Arts Museum, Baltimore, Maryland.
