Khusrau and Shirin
This scarf tells the story of Khusrau and Shirin, written by the 12th Century poet Nizami. Paintings by the 16th Century artist Shaikh Zada show (from the left) Khusrau espies Shirin bathing in a pool, and falls in love with her; then Shirin meets with the sculptor Farhad, who also loves her; the text narrates the story; then Khusrau and Shirin are betrothed (Farhad dies of a broken heart); and finally Khusrau is King. The original artwork is now with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
