Square Silk Scarf
Kai Kavus

Kai Kavus
Kai Kavus was a king of Persia, known for his capricious nature. The scene on this scarf is from the Shahnama (Book of Kings) by the 11th Century Persian poet Abu'l Qasim Firdausi. The king attempts to fly by tying hungry eagles to his throne, lured by meat dangled above them. The experiment ends in failure, to the bemusement of his courtiers. The original painting, by the 16th Century Persian artist Qadimi, is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
