This is an illustration of a scene from the Battle of Pashan, between the Persians and the Turanians, from the Shahnama (Book of Kings) by the 11th Century Persian poet Abu'l Qasim Firdausi. The two armies fight to retrieve the crown of Prince Rivniz, son of Kai Kavus (the King of Persia), who was killed in the battle. The original painting, attributed to the 16th Century Persian artist Qadimi, is now in the possession of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
